這首歌的作曲者已不可考，有一種說法是蘇格蘭當地的民謠。而英文歌詞則為英國人John Newton所寫，整首詩歌便是他生命的見證與告白。而「白色巨塔」版本的演唱者，是一位來自紐西蘭基督城的小女孩Hayley Westenra ，那清亮而潔淨的嗓音，將這首頌讚的詩歌，唱的令人心中充滿感動與平安。「白色巨塔」大概是近來已快被韓劇淹沒的偶像劇中，一部最引人震憾的日劇，看完真的是令人有很深的感觸，尤其是台灣最近發生了這麼多的醫療紛爭，加上自己去年又歷經了一場手術，劇中對醫病關係、醫療倫理的探討，都讓人有大大被重揰一擊的感覺，最讓人感動的，是最後財前快病逝的那一段，在一長串風風雨雨、明爭暗鬥過後，永遠鬥不過的還是生命的終結，最後他被推出病房，所有的醫生一字排開向他致敬那一幕，真的差點哭了出來，畢竟他還是醫界的鬥士，而他生病時，所有和他爭鬥過的人，都不既前嫌的來幫助他，更是讓人為藏污納垢的白色巨塔又重燃起希望… |
